This series of panoramic watercolours document historic Hutongs in Beijing which have since been lost through redevelopment. 

Initial drawings were created on the streets in Beijing over a three month period whilst stayi. Watercolour was then added using reference photographs over the following two years. The resulting panoramic images record backstreets in an area called Dong Ba. 

 

Dong Ba is situated in the North East of the city and had many buildings dating back over 200 years. The area has since undergone massive redevelopment and very few of the buildings seen here now remain.
