DOROTHY HAZARD:

Overlooked heroine of the Civil War.
Founder of Broadmead Baptist church.
Courageous defender of Bristol.

CIVIL WAR HEROINE:

July 26, 1643: Dorothy Hazard lead the women of Bristol in barricading the Frome Gate against the advancing Royalist troops during the English Civil War.

The Frome gate stood where the Yugo Courtrooms now stand.

St. John's Gate now stands close by.

Bristol BID and local artist Duncan McKellar are proposing an installation which will commemorate the heroism of Dorothy Hazard in a permanent Artwork.

The proposed Artwork involves installing letters spelling DOROTHY HAZARD along the South facing wall of Yugo Courtrooms.

These letters will be constructed using polished steel and will reflect sunlight 60 meters away into the arch of St. Johns Gate on Nelson Street.

An information board describing the life of Dorothy Hazard will be installed beneath St. John's Gate which will be illuminated at certain times of the day by this reflected sunlight.

Yugo's logo and a mention of thanks will be attached to the description of Dorothy Hazard installed beneath St. Johns Gate.
